Time Brings All Things Back

Humpback Whale

Time brings forth and separates,
it makes distinct the lives:
the germ, the ape,
the rose, the weed,
the spark of you and me.

And time brings all lives back
returning each to all.
The atoms and the genes,
the forest and the home
are here a while then gone.
The bird, the bush,
the insect and the whale
now distinct and so alive,
each, in time, is each no more.

As fruit back to earth,
as river to the sea,
time in time melts all the selves
back into the whole.
